Puppy information for your puppy

Puppies are sleeping inside in a caged area with access to Kmart training pads.
They love to have a nice bed, blanket to sleep on.
We will give a little blanket when you collect puppy, that has been rubbed all over mum to give puppy a familiar scent.

We realise there is a lot of info online around what to do with crating etc and everyone has a different idea or situation. I am sure you will do what works best for your family but all puppies are best to be taken outside to toilet after being woken from a sleep. They will quickly get into a routine of toileting on grass if you can do this.

We are feeding raw minced meats 3 times a day, with biscuits left down in between. We only give fresh water to drink.
We feed raw food that we purchase from https://goraw.co.nz
They provide bulk buying for us, but also courier all over New Zealand. If this does not suit you, you may find a local raw food supplier.

What I would suggest that is similar would be Raw essentials. We feed fish and chicken mixes, beef and tripe. Raw essentials have a really great variety with Lamb and Salmon, chicken and heart and tripe with wild mixes too.

Anything you purchase there will be great for puppy. We would feed 3 times a day 1-2 cubes if purchasing larger cubes from there. Other raw food places throughout NZ have similar ranges. We try to feed a varied mix.
We also feed Royal Canin puppy biscuits. Currently the puppies switching from mother and baby to Royal Canin medium, maxi, large or Giant puppy, depending on the expected size of your litter.

You will receive a voucher for a free bag of Royal Canin Puppy food and 30% of your next order when you collect your puppy. Please go online and follow directions on your voucher to redeem these.

We sometimes feed chicken necks as a bone (raw). We never feed any other sorts of bones to our puppies. Chicken necks are ok when the puppy chews them, but can be a choking hazard if your puppy gulps down so please supervise and cut them up if he/she tries to swallow whole.

Tripe is a good natural probiotic, or a spoonful of natural yoghurt.

If your puppy ever gets an upset tummy, we find feeding cooked chicken, rice and pumpkin for a few days resets any tummy issues. Of course if vomiting is present then please see a vet. Sometimes a change in food or even parasites can cause this. Be careful of your puppy chewing foreign objects and swallowing them.

For chewing toys we love the Benebone range. We find them very helpful to give to puppy to chew in their crates or while teething. You can source them in pet stores or at Pet direct, or other online pet stores.

Your puppy will be microchipped. You will need to go online and register your puppy at https://www.animalregister.co.nz

This will help if puppy goes missing and also register with your local council when puppy is 12 weeks of age.
In your vet book will be the next vaccine date due, as well as the microchip sticker with your puppies number on it.

We advise you to insure your puppy at least for the first few years.
This is when puppies can have chewing incidents and swallow socks etc which can be very expensive and stressful!
You can get free 6 weeks insurance with Southern Cross here https://www.southerncrosspet.co.nz/freecover

That is the company we have found to be good, but there are plenty of others if you shop around. We did find some do increase the insurance with a Bernese after about a year, in our experience. We insure with companies that will also cover Hip and Elbow dysplasia, and Southern Cross are one of the few that oCer this.

We have no fleas so do not treat with chemicals if not necessary. We will have wormed your puppy from 2 weeks of age and had another dose at the vet with their vaccinations. Your puppy book will also show the next vaccination date due. Please do not let puppy go on grass berms or anywhere outside your property until all the vaccinations are completed (usually a week after the last one).

This is also difficult as puppy socialisation is very important.
We try to go to Bunnings stores and use their trolleys to safely have an outing. Some puppy classes do start before vaccinations are finished but you would need to check in your area
Any questions please send us an email and we will try to answer as best we can
Thank you for purchasing a Hartland Bernedoodle/Golden doodle or Golden Mountain doodle from us. We hope you get a lot of enjoyment from your new family member, they are absolutely gorgeous puppies.
